Traditional Medicine
Traditional Chinese medicine traces back its history over 2,000 years. It has been used all over the world to soothe and cure ailments from the common cold to cancer. Traditional Chinese medicine uses a combination of herbs and harmony between the mind and body using methods such as acupuncture and tai chi to achieve a healthy lifestyle. The majority of these cures have not been proved by science, however. Demand for some of the remedies have interfered with animal species as well. For example, rhino horn has been in high demand to allegedly cure a variety of ailments. As of recently it has become a popular alleged cure for cancer. Due to the poaching of rhinos for their horns, rhinos are now an endangered species, with some species of rhino completely dying out in the wild.
Traditional Chinese medicine has four key principles:
1. Your body is an integrated whole
2. You are completely connected with nature
3. You were born with a natural self-healing ability
4. Prevention is the best cure
TCM is slowly modernizing and gaining legitimacy. Its popular not only in China, but throughout Southeast Asia, Singapore, Indonesia, Russia, and Australia. Its struggling to gain a market in the US and Europe due to their stricter regulations.

Tai Chi is a popular martial art form that is used not just for defense, but for health as well. It is all about the balance of Yin and Yang and flowing with the universe not against it. A main principle of Tai Chi is listening and the responding. The goal is to be adaptive, flowing, and balanced.
The flowing, yet specific, movements and forms help one learn patience, balance, and has even been shown to reduce stress. |
